What I'm Listening To! July 14/20
Once a week I'm going to pick a few songs or albums that I've been liking a lot to share with you. Please give them a listen on your favourite streaming services or give their songs a purchase. Let me know what you think down in the comments or on twitter!
These are my picks for this week:
Le Wanderer - Blue Swan (Single)
This is Le Wanderer's debut single and I absolutely love it. Been playing it non stop wherever I am for the past couple of weeks and been showing everyone and their grandma. I first found out about him through a Logic reddit where he posted a YouTube video that detailed how he made the song. I found it incredibly interesting and helpful and took a few pages of notes too. A Daft Punk sounding, extremely fun song. I've copied the link below to his YouTube 'Making of' video. I'm really excited to see what he comes up with next!
The Kooks - Unshelved: Pt. III (Album)
The Kooks have long been my one of my favourite bands ever since I found out about their debut album 'Inside In / Inside Out'. They are also the band that I've probably seen the most live to date. A sort of indie-pop-rock band originally from Brighton, England, they are a uniquely talented group. I particularly enjoy this album as it is the third part of their 'Unshelved' series where they have old songs that weren't officially released at the time. It's so fun to listen to these nostalgic feeling songs as they have that older Kooks vibe and I remember quite a few of them from back then. They have released part 1 and 2 already and I'm hoping there's at least one more to come! My favourite song so far has come from Part II and is called 'You Can't Take Yourself'.
Love Fame Tragedy - Wherever I Go, I Want To Leave (Album)
I was extremely lucky when I was younger to find 3 bands that I fell in love with and are still around to this day. They are The Kooks as mentioned above, the Arctic Monkeys and The Wombats. While we haven't heard anything new from The Wombats lately (it hasn't been that long, I'm not moaning yet), their lead singer Matthew Murphy has been putting out banger after banger of solo project songs throughout the last half year. They are absolutely amazing and a style all on their own. One thing that amazes me about Mr. Murphy is his ability to write hit after hit with intriguing lyrics and 'move-your-hip' tunes. 5150, Pills and Hardcore are my favourites so far but I know from prior Wombats albums that this will evolve and grow over time! Looking forward to the next couple of weeks to really listen to it more and more.
