Changing the Velocity on all your MIDI notes + Humanizing

This one's a quick little trick that a lot of you out there may already know but it was something that took me a while to come across and I find it useful in certain situations.

While having random velocities can turn a pencilled in midi session more human, sometimes it's beneficial to have the velocities all the same so that you get consistencies within your instrument or track.

Here is an example where all of my midi notes are at random velocities due to me playing this through my keyboard:

First your going to want to select all by clicking and dragging over all of the notes (or Command + A):

Next you'll want to click on 'Functions' -> 'MIDI Transform' -> 'Fixed Velocity':

You'll see a screen pop up that looks like this:

In my example, I've switched all of the velocities to '110' which you can see in the middle of the pop up screen. From there you can click on the bottom right where it says 'Select and Operate'. It will confirm the operation just above that button and you can then exit this pop up screen back to your piano roll:

Notice how all of my velocities are at a consistent '110', also shown through the specific shade of red the notes all share. This method gets your midi notes where you want them to be quickly and easily.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, sometimes you've pencilled in all of your notes and you want everything to sound more natural. This would essentially be the opposite of what we were doing above.

To do this follow the same steps as before but instead of clicking on 'Fixed Velocity' click on 'Humanize':

Hope these little tips and tricks help you out in your music production adventure!
